Perseverance in Hope 2023 Raises $111,350 to Support Healing and Assistance with Permanent Housing

“Things now are excellent. God has gifted me the entire way. I’m now a Tri-C graduate and I got the keys to my own apartment a week ago today. Everything has come together,” said Joseph & Mary’s Home alum Stuart Survance. Stuart spoke those words to 400 people at the Perseverance in Hope 2023 Benefit Luncheon at Windows on the River in Cleveland on October 12. The luncheon set a new record by raising $111,350 to support healing and assistance with permanent housing.

Joseph & Mary’s Home Earns Highest Level of Accreditation for Behavioral Health Services from CARF International

Joseph & Mary’s Home, the only homeless service provider in Northeast Ohio exclusively focused on medical respite care, has been accredited by CARF International for a period of three years for its behavioral health services program. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services.

Trauma-informed care has a much deeper meaning to Aleah Reed and Sherri Scroggins, who just completed the Community Health Worker Certification Program offered by Health Impact Ohio. These two dynamic staff members have been hustling to get residents connected to medical appointments and housing. Known around Joseph & Mary’s Home as “Firecracker” and “Get it Done,” Aleah and Sherri played key roles in connecting five residents to housing in the month of June.

A year ago, Joseph & Mary’s Home realized a longtime dream of our founders, the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, with the opening of a second facility to care for women experiencing homelessness who need a safe place to recover after surgery or hospitalization. Spring is a celebration of renewal and new beginnings. Your support provides people experiencing homelessness with a place to heal. People like Kathy and Karolin.

2022 Outcomes Highlighted in Recent Issue of The Journey Newsletter

With the opening of Mary’s Home in 2022, the number of adults Joseph & Mary’s Home was able to reach expanded significantly, with 119 men and women served in residence and the community. Sixty-two percent of residents were medically stable upon discharge and 90% of alumni exited to and remained in a stable setting. The list of outcomes in 2022 is highlighted in the recent issue of The Journey, the biannual newsletter of Joseph & Mary’s Home.

Many individuals and partners touched the lives of Joseph & Mary’s Home residents last year by providing everything from daily essentials like toiletries, bedding and towels, to warm winter coats and hats. These gifts help us welcome new residents and meet their basic needs. We are also very grateful to all the donors who made Thanksgiving and Christmas extra special.
