Joseph’s Home mourns passing of Board Director Lloyd M. Cook, MD

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the unexpected passing of Board of Directors member and friend, Dr. Lloyd Cook. Dr. Cook passed away on Monday, April 19 after a brief illness. Joseph’s Home extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Cook.

“Dr. Cook will be greatly missed by the board and staff of Joseph’s Home. He was truly very committed to the mission of Joseph’s Home and made great contributions in his service to Joseph’s Home. Dr. Cook always made time for Joseph’s Home and made an everlasting impact on the people we serve.” Said Richard C. Gallagher, Chair of the Joseph’s Home Board of Directors.

Dr. Cook was an integral advisor to the development of the integrated care model at Joseph’s Home and was the first Medical Director of Joseph’s Home. Dr. Cook became a member of the Joseph’s Home Board of Directors in 2018 and has served on the Program Development and Quality Committee and the Diversity Taskforce. Dr. Cook served as Medical Director for Medical Mutual prior to his passing.

Dr. Cook was a beloved friend of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and worked as an internal medicine physician at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center (SVCMC) from 1990 to 2017. During his time with SVCMC, Dr. Cook developed the first medical home at SVCMC, and he helped shape many resident physicians and guide the direction of the Internal Medicine Residency Program as a Core Faculty Member. During his tenure at SVCMC, one of his most enjoyed roles was as a teaching attending physician to Internal Medicine residents—he had a hand in shaping the medical careers of hundreds of our past graduates. He received many awards while with SVCMC—Doctor of the Year, Internal Medicine Residency Program’s Teaching Attending of the Year—to name a few.

As a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, mentor—he was one of a kind. What made him exceptional was his authenticity and his deep caring for others. Dr. Cook leaves behind his wife, Dr. Lydia Cook, and two children, Shayna and Brandon.

Dr. Cook was a staunch supporter of Joseph’s Home. Dr. Lydia Cook has asked that in lieu of other expressions of condolence and support that donations be made to help the Mary’s Home Capital Campaign. If you feel led to honor the memory of Dr. Cook in this way, you may donate online in memory of Dr. Lloyd Cook at www.josephshome.com/maryshomecampaign/#support-the-marys-home-campaign.
